India’s Rice prodn to fall below 100ml tonnes mark

As per the recently released revised estimates of Agri Ministry, the rice production in the country is expected to be around 94-95 ml t for the year 2010-11. This loss in prodn is mainly attributed to the widespread drought across the eastern states, as well as flood in many parts of the northern India. But the lower mark may not suppose to cause any recent affect at least for the current year, as the govt stocks are already overflowing with excess procurement done last season.
